Prospect AME Church continues to monitor COVID-19 and its effects on our communities. The safety of our congregation and community is of utmost importance, and the church is taking extra precaution to prevent the spread or contamination within our church community. The church has officially transitioned to online services. We will constantly update our Web page to ensure that relevant information and guidance is shared. Even in these uncertain times, we know that God is in control. We ask that everyone remain prayerful and vigilant, and adhere to the advice of the experts that God has put into position to guide us through this crisis.
Leadership Under the leadership of Pastor Willie Bo Barber II, worship and all study sessions at Prospect AME Church have transitioned to remote operations. Pastor Barber has asked all Trustees and Stewards to function as class leaders. A list of members has been divided among the class leaders based on geographic location. The class leaders are responsible for checking on their set group of members to access their needs, pray for them, and communicate the church’s changes in services. They should contact Administrative Assistant Myya Robinson at 228-223-1983 or email picchicmyya@gmail.com with any concerns. Worship All in-person gatherings have been suspended per state and federal recommendations. In a time when people need encouragement most, the church will continue to serve its congregation and the community through remote operations and personal visits when necessary. At this time, Sunday messages will be prerecorded. The links will be shared via church website, text, email, and social media. All forms of ministry such as bible study, Sunday School, youth ministry, etc. will transition to other formats such as video conferencing, Facebook, and Zoom. While it feels like there is a lot we can’t control amidst concerns over COVID-19, every one of us can make choices to stay emotionally healthy. Giving There is no better time to continue supporting the ministry financially and/or consider doing so. Help us help you and the community. Keeping our finances in tact is important to help maintain the daily operations of church services while also making concessions for those who may need help during this crisis. There are several ways to give: • Class Leader Giving – You can give your contributions in the form of check or money order to your assigned Class Leader. Class Leaders are responsible for submitting contributions to the Finance Team. • Mobile App Giving – You can give through Cash App. When you give, please list your legal name in the description section. The Cash App Name is $Prospectame. • Web Giving – Give through Faithteams.com. Click the Give Now icon on our church website, and it will direct you to faith team giving. • Text Giving – If you have a giving account through Faithteams.com you can use the text-to-give feature. • Drop Box – Church will provide a drop box at the door where checks and money orders can be delivered. It will be checked periodically. Discipleship and Outreach Prospect will continue with outreach projects such as the canned food drives and working with the Kenneth B. Walker Home to meet the needs of the young men housed there. The church will also look for ways to fill in the gap for other needs in the community as the opportunity presents. For example, sending cards to nursing homes, etc. Church members or others in the community may have other needs such as having someone to pick up groceries or prescriptions, meeting financial obligations, etc. The Class Leaders are in place to help identify those needs and should contact Myya Robinson, Administrative Assistant, at 228-223-1983 or picchicmyya@gmail.com. Building Maintenance and Security Prospect will provide a deeper level of cleaning than the normal weekly routine. This plan will include but will not be limited to the following: • Cleaning and dusting building’s air and return vents/ducts • Deep cleaning the kitchen and all kitchen equipment and appliances • Changing out or cleaning building entry floor mats as needed • Pressure washing building entrances and exits • Deep cleaning carpets by appropriate method • Deep cleaning restrooms with appropriate cleaning solutions • Cleaning and disinfecting the church van. An outside source will be employed to do detailed cleaning where necessary. • The church will provide gloves and masks to leaders who visit the premises for money collection, etc. • Church grounds will be monitored. Safety Reminders Practice Self-Care In the midst of a stressful season or situation, many self-care practices are the same ones that prove helpful in everyday living: • Maintain your normal routines. • Connect with family and friends. • Eat well. • Stay active. • Get adequate rest. • Do enjoyable activities. • Employ coping skills that nurture your spirit, like prayer and mindfulness exercises. Remember to support each other. We aren’t created to go through extreme stress alone, so this is also a time for God’s family members to care for each other. Here are two questions to keep asking yourself: • What opportunities do I have to help others? • What is overwhelming right now that I should ask someone for help with? In these uncertain times more than ever, let the loving arms of our Lord of Savior Jesus Christ give you peace in this time. Everyone is encouraged to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines to guard yourself and your families from the effects of COVID-19. Visit www.cdc.gov for safety and prevention tips. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
